Come along to one of the Festival’s FREE events, including the AFCM International Masterclasses, featuring the finest emerging talent in chamber music or the much-loved Annual Queens Gardens Concert.
Sunday, 27 July 2024 - AFCM Queens Gardens Concert
It is wonderful to be returning to Queens Gardens for our annual park concert co-presented by Townsville City Council. Gates will open at 3:00pm and we encourage music lovers from all walks of life to bring a picnic and a rug or some chairs and gather in the park for a FREE afternoon of wonderful music on the big stage.
The Barrier Reef Orchestra will feature in the line-up alongside visiting Festival musicians, including Artistic Director Jack Liebeck (violin). The Queens Gardens Concert is a fully licensed event, and while no BYO (alcohol) is permitted, you will find bar facilities, tea & coffee and light snacks on site.
THIS EVENT IS FREE AND SUITABLE FOR ALL-AGE
AFCM Winterschool International Masterclasses
The AFCM Winterschool International Masterclasses are held during the Australian Festival of Chamber Music, and is an unforgettable experience for emerging musicians. Participants gain access to some of the world’s leading artists for lessons, masterclasses, mentoring and concerts.
Watch live as our AFCM artists coach the AFCM Winterschool International Masterclasses ensembles during a series of free public masterclasses held at the Ville Resort-Casino. The Masterclasses series and week-long tutelage program culminates in a fantastic concert later in the week.

AFCM Outreach Program
The AFCM Outreach program provides an extraordinary opportunity for one of our outstanding Advanced International Masterclass ensembles to return to the Festival as working musicians.
In 2024 the Outreach Tour features a series of workshops and performances at local secondary schools and theatres in the region, led by Winterschool Director Lloyd van’t Hoff, showcasing the talents of the AFCM Fellowship Ensemble.
The Outreach tour will be visiting schools and theatres in, amongst others the Burdekin, Charters Towers and Ingham, with a final performance at James Cook University.
