AFCM Pathways Digital Outreach
Through support from the Ian Potter Foundation and in partnership with Aeyons, the AFCM Pathways Program has developed an online learning tool called the Pathways Digital Platform. The Pathways Digital Platform hosts high speed, low-latency video calls built with online instrumental teaching in mind, allowing emerging musicians to connect with mentors and teachers both before and after the Festival. The Pathways Digital Platform is used as part of the Pathways International Masterclasses, and also as part of a new initiative called Pathways Digital Outreach.
Pathways Digital Outreach for Schools
Through 20+ years of schools workshops, AFCM has seen many talented young high school musicians in regional Australia. We have also seen that students in these regions can find it difficult to access the high-level instrument-specific tuition needed to prepare them for a pathway leading to tertiary study and a career in chamber music. Using the Pathways Digital Platform, the AFCM Pathways Program is launching a Digital Outreach program that will work with schools to match students with AFCM endorsed artists for fortnightly online instrumental lessons through the school term.

Ideal for high-performing instrumental students aspiring to conservatorium study
Lessons are scheduled during school hours, with instrumental teachers at the school supervising the lessons. Schools can also organise lessons for instrumental teachers as professional development, helping generalist instrumental teachers to develop their teaching skills across a broader number of instruments. Lessons run for one hour each, with five lessons delivered per term. Schools will need to have two students minimum signed up to participate in Pathways Digital Outreach.
Pathways Digital Outreach is launching in regional Queensland first, but from 2026 onwards will scale to a national program. If your school is interested in signing up for Pathways Digital Outreach, please email Pathways Program Manager Nick Duff at nick.duff@afcm.com.au.
