Michael Gibson
Born and raised in Brisbane, Michael Gibson’s journey as a cellist has led to him studying and performing in venues all across the world. He has been a participant at many chamber music festivals, including the Icicle Creek Festival in Washington, Musical Chairs Festival in Montréal, Ticino Musica in Switzerland and International Sommerakademie in Germany. Closer to home, he has performed with the Queensland Symphony and Queensland Camerata, and is currently an academist with the QSO and an Upbeat artist with Camerata.
During his studies, he performed several times as a mentee with Ensemble Q, as well as with the Australian Youth Orchestra and the Queensland Youth Symphony. Following the completion of his Bachelor of Music at the Queensland Conservatorium, he travelled to Hamburg, Germany to undertake further postgraduate studies with Tanja Tetzlaff at the Hamburg Hochschule für Musik und Theater. His previous teachers have included Trish Dean, Meta Weiss and Melissa Dineen.
