Tobias has established himself as one of Australia’s most asked for viola players in chamber music and collaborates regularly with some of the country’s finest artists and ensembles. Internationally he was invited to perform at Festivals in the UK, South Africa, USA, Austria and his native Germany. Whenever his busy chamber music schedule allows Tobias plays full time as Principal violist of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.
Tobias Breider, born in Münster (Westfalia), studied with Rainer Moog in Cologne, Barbara Westphal in Lübeck and in New York with Michael Tree of the Guarneri Quartet.
Before moving to Australia to join the Sydney Symphony Orchestra in 2011, he held Principal Viola positions at the Rhine Opera Düsseldorf, the Konzerthaus Berlin and with the Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra under Simone Young. He has also appeared as guest Principal with the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Radio Symphony Orchestras of Berlin, Vienna and Cologne, the Qatar Philharmonic and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra a.o.
