Festival Prelude – Cinema Screening "4"

About this event:

The Townsville Cinema Group and the Australian Festival of Chamber Music are pleased to present the Australian premiere screening of Daniel Kutschinski's awarded film “4” (Best Film at Los Angeles Documentary Film Festival 2015). 4 is an independent cinema documentary on one of the world's most exciting string quartets - the Quatuor Ebène. The screening will be introduced by AFCM Artistic Director, Kathryn Stott.

Concert Conversations 1 with Kathryn Stott

About this event:

Always our most popular events, Concert Conversations begins with Artistic Director Kathryn Stott chatting with several artists. Today her guests include Julian Bliss, Guy Johnston, Claire Edwardes and Tobias Breider. Afterwards hear several of them perform in concert followed by tea and coffee on the deck of the Pavilion.

Sunset Series - Was it a Dream ?

The first in our Ray Golding Sunset Series concerts, this one hour Saturday afternoon concert offers a wonderful mix of music from past and current composers including Composer-in-Residence Julian Yu and visiting artist and composer Argentinian JP Jofre, who performs a world premiere of El abrazo with fellow artist Kees Boersma.

Church Concert - Dovetailing Barber

About this event:

This Sunday morning concert takes place in the atmospheric Mary MacKillop church and presents a wonderful mix of traditional music featuring Mozart and Brahms alongside new music including Composer-in-Residence Julian Yu's Dovetailing performed by Hungarian cellist István Várdai. There's also a world premiere, a cello octet and a traditional Chinese song performed on sheng and cello. Not to be missed!

Today her guests include Tine Thing Helseth, Prudence Davis, Daniel de Borah, Timothy Young and Alexander Sitkovetsky. Sunset Series - Spain versus Italy

About this event:

The Sunset Series concerts are a perfect introduction to chamber music. Just one hour long and presenting a wonderful mix of music whilst showcasing the talented artists visiting Townsville. In this concert, hear music from well-known Italian composers Boccherini and Puccini as well as several Spanish composers including the Australian premiere of Sollima's Igiul performed by the Festival's cello octet. A highly entertaining concert!

Concert Conversations 6 with Kathryn Stott

Our final Concert Conversation sees Kathryn chatting with Norwegian Lars Anders Tomter, the Festival's much loved Quartet in Residence the Goldner String Quartet, plus Australian soprano Siobhan Stagg, our youngest ever musician Grace Clifford and ANAM cellist Eliza Sdraulig. Note the early start time of 9.30am. Concert and morning tea included.

Families' Concert - Ahoy! Sing for the Mary Rose

Join choirs and singers from Townsville as they join with festival musicians to present the cantata Ahoy! Sing for the Mary Rose. Combining Tudor music, folk songs and well-known sea shanties this lively work tells the story of the recently sal-vaged King Henry VIII’s warship, the Mary Rose. This entertaining concert promises to be a great celebration of everything nautical.
