Justin Ankus - Executive Director

Justin joined the festival in August 2015. Justin came to the festival from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music (University of Sydney) where he was the Manager of the Conservatorium Open Academy for the past 7 years. Prior to the Con he also worked with Musica Viva Australia and the Australian Chamber Orchestra.  He holds a Masters degree in Arts Management from the University of Technology Sydney. Outside of the festival, he is also an organist and choirmaster. When not involved in music, Justin can be found on the bowling green. Born and raised in Sydney, North Queensland has been a regular holiday destination and he is now delighted to call Townsville home and be part of this wonderful Townsville institution.  

Rebecca Alferez - Artistic Administrator

Rebecca joined the team in 2012 following six and half years as Program Coordinator for the highly successful Events Queensland Regional Development team. In this role Rebecca worked with a broad range of events across regional Queensland and is now looking forward to concentrating her energy into the AFCM. Rebecca has a degree in Journalism and public relations and has held government and non-government roles both in Brisbane and Townsville.

Sheridan Helft - Marketing Manager

Sheridan Helft is based in Melbourne as our Marketing Manager, and brings a wealth of experience to our organisation. Sheridan worked in marketing management for many years with several large companies including Diners Club, Citibank and Fairfax Media. Originally from Townsville, she brought her young family back for a seachange in 2011 and spent 12 months living in Townsville, which is when she came to work for us. Now back in Melbourne (her favourite city in Australia, besides Townsville of course!), Sheridan manages all of the Festival’s national advertising and publicity, making frequent visits back to Townsville. A perfect combination she says!

Jacqui Ferry - Marketing and Development Executive

Jacqui joins us most recently from Newscorp and from running her own photography business.  A background in Marketing, Customer Relations and Photography, Jacqui spent 13 years living throughout Europe, working mainly for large hotel chains and boutique restaurants.  Returning originally for 6 months, Jacqui fell in love with the ease of life in Townsville, the ability to see more than 10 days of sunshine a year, exercising outdoors and the property market.  Six months turned into eight years and with an old Queenslander and 2 Border Collies, a definitive plan to stay.  

Sue Hackett - Philanthropy Manager

Sue is no stranger to the Festival and is delighted to be returning as our first full-time Philanthropy Manager. Now based in Sydney, Sue took a short break after leaving AFCM in 2015 before returning to an old haunt, Opera Australia where she cut her arts administration teeth as Special Events Manager for the Philanthropy Department. Prior to AFCM she spent many years in Australia and Europe immersed in orchestral music, opera and artist management and the lure of chamber music in a festival environment provided the perfect corollary. Passionate about the effect of the arts in regional Australia Sue believes that the intriguing story of the AFCM has many chapters still to come.

Helen Hobbs - Finance Manager

Helen has over 20 years of experience in financial and management accounting having worked in both public practice and commercial CFO roles across a range of industries.  Helen has a strong focus on providing high level accounting and management advice to not for profit organisations in the Townsville region.  Helen holds a Bachelor of Commerce, has been a member of CPA Australia since 2003 and has a Master of Business Administration.
