PIMLICO State High School music teacher Richard Newell has already described his chamber strings orchestra as the most talented group he has ever taught, but they are now set to get even better.
The orchestra has been selected to take part in the Townsville Bulletin Winterschool program, which will see them train under world-renowned musicians who are performing as part of the Australian Festival of Chamber Music, to be held from July 30 to August 8.
It will be perfect timing for the talented team, who will then fly out a week later to represent North Queensland in the Fanfare Music Festival in Brisbane in August.
Mr Newell said the students would welcome any help they could to prepare for a flawless performance at the prestigious festival.
He said the orchestra was in the final 11 of the competition, which saw 715 groups statewide initially take part.
''So having an international artist to work with them just before they go will be the icing on the cake. They'll get to work with someone of an international standard who will galvanise that talent ... and take them to the next level.''
