The team over at the Australian Festival of Chamber Music (AFCM) has just received some fantastic news; our Festival has won the ABC Limelight Magazine Award for Best Event/Festival for 2009!
Amongst six world-class shortlisted events, the AFCM received an unbeatable amount of votes by the public this year to take out the title.
This follows on from a banner year for the AFCM which saw the Festival experience its highest ticket sales in its 19 year history and receive a nomination in the Q150 Awards and the Event of the Year title at the Townsville City Council Awards.
AFCM Artistic Director, Piers Lane is "overwhelmed by the win and hopes the Townsville community will continue to support the Festival well into the future".
Piers Lane announced at the Festival close that he has signed on to steer the program for another two years.
Yvette Braithwaite-Bragg General Manager of the AFCM says "After such a successful Festival in 2009, we are thrilled to be awarded Best Event/Festival and we look forward to continuing to attract high calibre musicians and an enthusiastic audience to Townsville."
Celebrating its 20th year in 2010, the Australian Festival of Chamber Music (AFCM) has developed an international reputation for its distinguished artists and innovative programming and has become the largest chamber music festival in Australia, and one of the most diverse.
Between 30 July and 7 August 2010, Townsville will once again play host to the annual winter event attracting some of the finest chamber musicians from around the world.
